Lychee, as one of the city's business cards, always makes the people of Maoming proud - for “one out of every five lychees in the world is a Maoming lychee”, attracting guests and businessmen from all over the world...

Nearly 100 thousand hectares of lychee are planted in Maoming. The Luduan Gongyuan was built during the Sui and Tang dynasties, and has 39 lychee trees of over 500 years old, including 13 of over 1200 years old. Cared and guarded by generations of Maoming people, the ancient Lychee trees witness the history of Maoming and bear the continuous improvement and optimization of the species over the centuries. Today, their cultural value is much greater than their economic value.

Whenever the young fruits are hanging on the branches, people in Maoming launch the activity of “Lychee customization”. Caring enterprises and people voluntarily join in this activity. With their ages, the ancient trees are unable to produce fruits comparable to the new varieties, but what the caring enterprises commit to is a legacy, protection, and conservation of the ancient lychee trees and the lychee culture.

Ubridge invested RMB 500,000 last year to subscribe to the 150-year-old A1206 ancient lychee tree in Genzi Gongyuan. This year, we sponsored another RMB 180,000 to subscribe to the 1,262-year-old B21 ancient lychee tree in Luduan Gongyuan.

On May 28, which was Sunday, more than 60 Ubridge staff met under the B21 tree to pick lychees with help from the Gongyuan staff. According to them, B21 is already 1262 years old. It is a “Bai Tang Ying” variety and is expected to produce about 100 kilograms of fruits this year.

Guarding the ancient lychee tree and promoting the lychee culture” is a mission and a belief that is engraved in the bones of Maoming people. As Ubridge is rooted in this city, we will not forget our roots and will always give back to the city in various ways.
